BIBLES NEEDED FOR STUDENT OUTREACH - People of the Book Lutheran Outreach/POBLO-Chicago

Bilingual Bibles needed for Outreach to Muslim Students
Request from Hicham Chehab, POBLO Missionary in Chicago

Needed: Funds to buy bilingual Bibles (Arabic/ English) (Farsi/English) (Urdu?English) for the student evangelism club that I work with at College of Dupage in Glen Ellyn, IL.

Recently we established an information booth on campus and we ran out of all the Arabic Bibles we had. The ministry is booming, and Muslim students are asking for Bibles in both languages, Arabic and English. A team of students is helping in this outreach, and God has honored me with leading this ministry.

Contact Hicham at: hicham.chehab@gmail.com

Hicham Chehab is the new POBLO (People Of the Book Lutheran Outreach) Missionary for the Northeran Illinois District of the LCMS.

Hicham grew up in a world of bitter animosity between Muslims and Christians in Beirut, Lebanon. By the age of 13 he was recruited by an extremist Muslim group and later fought against Christian militia in the 1975 civil war in Lebanon. He was on the verge of becoming a Muslim cleric when a car accident laid him up for a year.

Today, Hicham Chehab, a Lutheran Christian, has been assigned by POBLO to work in the Chicagoland area as a missionary to Muslims.

Hicham is in demand as a public speaker, speaking to Churches, Bible study groups and others who are interested in Mulsim outreach. To arrange for a speaking engagement , please contact Hicham by Email or at (630) 259-8417. To read Hicham's moving personal testimony, click here.An audio version of Hicham's testimony can be found at the Issues, Etc. Archive for Monday, June 11, 2007. The 28 minute interview with Hicham begins in Part B at min. 28:25 and continues into Part C until min. 3:40. New Members: Bethesda Telugu Church always invites new visitors to worship and participate in our Church activities. Mrs. & Mr. Prasad came from India two years ago to study in the USA. Recently they started to come to our church and now they want to become members of this church. Pastor Katari invited them to church worship on March 28, 2007. And this new family invited all our church members for a prayer meeting in their home on the celebration of their son Prince who is six years old. Mrs. Prasad studied law and is looking for a job. So we pray with them and we hope our good Lord will bless them and fulfill all their needs.

Eva's Graduation - Telugu - Asian Indian

We take opportunities to invite people to attend our special occasions to hear the Word of God and to encourage them to come to our worship services. Eva, Pastor Katari's daughter, was graduated from Concordia University-Chicago in the month of May 2008. We invited our friends and church members to attend. Pastor Bacon gave the message to our Indian people on how to use our American freedom to better their future. Eva is very helpful in the ministry of God as she works with Pastor Katari and the Church elders. May the Lord bless Eva to be success in her future life.

Hicham Chehab, Missionary

405 S. Rush Street
Roselle, IL 60172
Office: 630-259-8417
Email: Hicham.chehab@gmail.com

Through the work of Hicham Chehab, in partnership with the Northern Illinois District LCMS and in cooperation with Trinity Lutheran Church, Roselle, Illinois, the International Ministry of PEOPLE OF THE BOOK LUTHERAN OUTREACH (POBLO) is going forward in the Chicagoland area.

In November, 2006, Hicham was established as the new POBLO-Chicago on-site missionary. Hicham immediately began work with a number of international families, meeting one-on-one with them. God continues to provide opportunities for ministry in the Chicago area. The need for immigration and refugee services grows; food, housing, job placement and clothing requests increase. More importantly, the work of sharing the love of Jesus Christ with people who have not heard the saving message is paramount in the work of POBLO-Chicago.

More About Hicham Chehab . . . Missionary with POBLO-Chicago:

Hicham grew up in a world of bitter animosity between Muslims and Christians in Beirut, Lebanon. By the age of 13 he was recruited by an extremist Muslim group and later fought against Christian militia in the 1975 civil war in Lebanon. He was on the verge of becoming a Muslim cleric when a car accident laid him up for a year.

Today, Hicham Chehab, a Christian, has been assigned by POBLO (People of the Book Lutheran Outreach) to work in the Chicagoland area as a missionary to Muslims. At the same time he is completing his studies at Concordia Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana, to become ordained as a pastor in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.

A Sunni Iraqi is Baptized - POBLO - Chicago

Fifty-year-old Hussein described his dream to me:

I was lost on a bleak and treacherous road, trying in vain to find my way home, when a person in white robes appeared on my path.

"Who are you?" I asked. "I am Jesus Christ," He replied. Then, being aware of my apprehension, Jesus added, "Not Satan. Satan cannot take on my image."

"'I want to go back home. Can you show me the way?" I asked.

"I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." Jesus replied.

While I was walking, He was floating in the air. There was a lot of chaos around us, like a wasteland. Jesus held my hand and took me into a church. Inside was a big pit with boiling water that was foaming and seething. Pointing to the boiling water, Jesus said, "Those are your sins coming up. Water will cleanse you of your sins." Then Jesus added: "I will send you like a sheep among wolves."

That was the dream Hussein, an Iraqi Sunni refugee, had seen before my meeting him in Wheaton, IL.

I was bringing Hussein, with his family and others, to an ESL class. I parked at the church and the women stepped out of my van to join the class. However, Hussein, sitting in the front seat without getting out, asked to talk to me in private.

I took Hussein to my home, feeling that there was something spiritual in his request. This is when Hussein narrated his dream to me. I responded by opening an Arabic version of the Bible, contextualized for Muslims, and reading parts of the Gospel of John to him. Then I read Acts 8 to him.

Hussein responded by asking to be baptized.

With Baptism Hamid Has Started a New Life - POBLO - Chicago

Hamid, 33, born in a Sabian community in Iran, went a few times to a church in Vienna, Austria. He admired the architecture and the culture but no one told him about the love of Christ. Hamid arrived in the U.S. with his mother one month before I met him in Wheaton. In Iran, Hamid was a successful business man, a well-traveled person. He was surrounded, all the time, by family and friends who enjoyed his generosity.

More than a year ago, Farhad, 25, born in a Sabian community in Iran, went a few times to a church that was recognized by the Islamic Republic, in order to explore Christianity. But he had no Christian instruction. It was the death of his beloved sister, Iman, that brought Farhad to his knees.
